Husthwaite School originally opened in 1836 to serve Husthwaite village. It was established as an Anglican foundation. The present school was opened in 1974 upon the amalgamation of Coxwold and Husthwaite Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary Schools and continues to be part of the Church Schools Foundation. We maintain close links with the local churches and the local vicar is an active member of the school community.
Initially the school comprised of 3 classrooms, a hall and small library area. A separate nursery building was built shortly afterwards and since then further alterations have taken place to further enhance its facilities including extensions to the hall and office as well as the addition of another classroom and fabulous new library and ICT suite.
We have secure and well developed grounds including a large expanse of open grassland, two playgrounds, a dedicated foundation stage outdoor play area and a wildlife garden.
Husthwaite School benefits from having a Foundation Stage unit which caters for both Nursery and Reception aged children enabling the school to offer an education for children between the ages of 3 and 11. Furthermore, the separate nursery building is now used for a weekly toddler group led by one of the teaching staff.
The school is located in the village of Husthwaite which is in a designated conservation area on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Its proximity to the A19 makes access to York, Leeds and Teesside easy. The catchment area for pupil intake to the school includes the villages of Husthwaite, Coxwold, Oulston, Carlton Husthwaite and Oldstead.
