School Grounds and Play Area

Husthwaite School has been blessed with a secure outdoor play area far larger and the envy of many other schools of this size. This has meant that we have been able to blend a traditional playground with a substantial area of grass and woodland, allowing a wide range of play activities for our pupils.
We are constantly improving and updating this site by providing a safe and separate play area for the youngest members of our school community, a delightful collection of ecologically fashioned animal figures and willow hideaways.

Our pupils are instrumental in the development of our outdoor areas, as part of the Pupil Voice Group, with a range of gardening activities, from planting seasonal bulbs to assisting members of The Orchards of Husthwaite Committee in planting our new orchard with a wealth of fruit trees as befits a school in a village of orchard origins. This delightful gardening and learning partnership has also afforded us the opportunity to offer the use of our grounds for the annual Husthwaite Applefest, thus using our close ties with the village to share our orchard harvests with a wider community.

In addition to these excellent facilities, we are adjacent to the village’s all weather community sports ground. This gives us the opportunity to take groups of pupils to enjoy not only play equipment applicable to their age range, including the tennis, netball and basketball courts.
As you can see, we hope to ensure our pupils have as much fun and choice in their play and sporting activities as they do with their academic.
